Europ Assistance to provide Expert Second Medical Opinion services
Europ Assistance today announced the launch of its Expert Second Medical Opinion (SMO) product for international clients. SMO offers customers 24/7 access to a personalized medical specialist’s opinion allowing them to make better informed decisions regarding a recommended medical treatment.
SMO is a simple and easy to use service that allows patients to receive a second opinion from certified medical experts worldwide within 10 business days. Europ Assistance created its SMO service to ensure that patients have access to a second opinion from a qualified subject matter expert to put their minds at ease when it comes to important medical decisions. This new offering allows Europ Assistance to leverage its global medical network and existing relationships with renowned medical institutions in order to provide patients with the highest level of service, no matter where they are in the world.
Patients being diagnosed with a medical condition contact the 24/7 assistance center online or via phone to submit their medical information along with any questions to a Europ Assistance care manager. After the required documents are received from the patient, Europ Assistance’s medical doctors review the submitted documents to determine if the issue falls under critical illness, chronic disease, or an intervention. They then create a clinical summary and share it with the most appropriate health specialist from Europ Assistance’s network of more than 500 elite experts in 14 countries across North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific. These experts are selected based on a few key criteria, including relevant medical experience, active medical practice, academic recognition, and peer recommendations.
Europ Assistance’s expert then analyzes the patient’s medical documents and clinical review before delivering a written report with their second opinion within 5 – 10 business days. The care manager then shares the report with the requesting patient who can ask clarifying questions and, if necessary, the care manager can help arrange additional services, like homecare assistance.
This solution is available today for international clients and has the potential to expand across the globe.
