Top 5 Free Things to do in Berlin

berlin

Berlin is a city rich in history, making it easy to have an incredible time without spending much money! Here are five must-sees that won’t cost you anything at all.

Try a self-guided walking tour

Immerse yourself in the city and get your bearings with a self-guided walking tour. Download the Berlin Map and Walks app to help you navigate the city, while at the same time as learning about your surroundings as you walk. Make sure your walks include historic sites such as the Brandenburg Gate, Reichstag, the Holocaust Memorial and Checkpoint Charlie. For a spot of shopping, head to Alexanderplatz.

Walk along the East Side Gallery

Once a part of the Berlin Wall, the East Side Gallery is now the longest open-air gallery in the world, covering 1.3 kilometres. The wall is covered in an array of murals that depict the dramatic political changes across Europe and Germany after the Second World War.

Take advantage of free museums

Museum Island is a must-see in Berlin, housing five museums on a single patch of land! Entry to some museums is free, while others offer free entry once a week or once a month. Take a look at the city's Museums Portal for times and admission. If you miss free entry slots, you can still enjoy the incredible architecture on the island itself.

Try the Tiergarten

Roam around the beautiful Tiergarten, the second-biggest urban park in Germany. Tiergarten is to Berliners what Central Park is to New Yorkans! Spanning nearly 519 acres, the park was once a royal hunting ground and it's now a place for joggers, skaters and cyclists, as well as those who simply want to relax in the sun over a picnic.

Sometimes, the best things in life are free, and with a city as historically rich as Berlin, you'll find you can easily immerse yourself in its culture without spending a penny!
